Leave that to the professionals.
- WAIT FOR AUTHORIZATION TO RETURN
A qualified Twin Forks Propane technician or emergency personnel must inspect the area and determine it is safe before anyone returns.
Preventing Propane Emergencies:
Proactive Safety Measures
Preventing emergencies is key to safe propane use. Here are some important steps you can take:
- REGULAR APPLIANCE MAINTENANCE
Have your propane-burning appliances (furnace, water heater, stove, etc.) inspected and maintained annually by a qualified service technician. This helps ensure they are operating efficiently and safely.
- PROFESSIONAL TANK INSPECTIONS
Twin Forks Propane provides thorough inspections of your propane tank and system. Schedule regular inspections to identify and address any potential issues before they become a problem.
- CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) DETECTORS
Install and maintain CO detectors on every level of your home, near sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas that can be produced by malfunctioning fuel-burning appliances. Test your CO detectors monthly and replace the batteries at least once a year.
- PROPER VENTILATION
Ensure proper ventilation for all propane appliances. Never block vents or flues.
-
SAFE FUEL STORAGE
(FOR PORTABLE CYLINDERS)
Store propane cylinders upright in a well-ventilated area away from heat sources, open flames, and other flammable materials. Do not store cylinders indoors or in enclosed spaces like basements or garages.
- BE AWARE OF EVACUATION
Before digging or excavating on your property, call 811 (Call Before You Dig) to have underground utilities, including propane lines, marked.
- EDUCATE YOUR FAMILY
Make sure everyone in your household knows what propane smells like, what to do if they smell gas, and how to shut off the main propane valve (if they are old enough and physically able).
Understanding Your Propane Tank: Knowledge is Power
Knowing a little more about your propane tank can contribute to safer usage:
- TANK OWNERSHIP
Understand whether you own your tank or if it is leased from Twin Forks Propane. This can affect maintenance responsibilities.
- TANK SIZE AND CAPACITY
Be aware of your tank’s size and how much propane it holds. This helps you plan for refills.
- TANK LOCATION AND MARKINGS
Know the location of your tank and be familiar with any important markings or labels on it.
- PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE
Your tank is equipped with a pressure relief valve, which is designed to release propane if the pressure inside the tank becomes too high. Never attempt to tamper with or obstruct this valve. If you notice propane being released from the valve, even if you don’t smell gas, evacuate the area and call Twin Forks Propane immediately.
- DATE OF MANUFACTURE
Propane tanks have a date of manufacture and require periodic recertification. Twin Forks Propane will ensure your leased tank is up-to-date on all safety regulations. If you own your tank, it is your responsibility to ensure timely recertification.
